Yellow! {I Heart Faces Photo Challenge}

When I heard that this week’s theme for the I Heart Faces photo challenge was “yellow,” I knew this was the photo I had to submit! The sunshine and the sea of yellow flowers just make me think of the first warm days of spring when the fields are in full bloom. (If you follow my blog, you might recognize this image from this post.)

If you’re not a familiar with it, I Heart Faces is a fun resource site with great tutorials (one’s even written by me!), weekly photo challenges, and loads of eye candy. And if you have a yellow photo you love, anyone with a Flickr account can enter! Just click below.

Short Lived Affair {Marlton NJ Band Photographer}

When I was in high school, I secretly wanted to be a rock star. Unfortunately I never got further than singing an off-key rendition of “Volcano Girls” with my friend’s band at Scream in the Field. So I was stoked to see that five girls from my old high school are actually making it happen.

First, the band. Then, the story.

Short Lived Affair is Monica Kelly (vocals), Kaitlyn Young (guitar), Rachel Visitacion (drums), Kristen Valenti (guitar), and Taylor Coigne (bass). Follow them on Facebook here or listen to them here. Hear them before your friends do.

Now for the cool story: Out of more than 600 bands around the country competing in a battle of the bands, Short Lived Affair was one of the select few chosen to play the Zumiez stage at this month’s Bamboozle festival at the Meadowlands. If you’re not familiar with that festival or that arena, let me break it down for you:

THAT.
IS.
AWESOME.

Bamboozle is an annual festival with a crazy-diverse mix of arena rockers, old-school legends, indie bands, and up-and-comers. I’ve seen everyone from Weird Al to Linkin Park play there. Case in point, Short Lived Affair shared the bill with Lil Wayne and Motley Crue (and about 50 other bands). 80,000 people show up. It’s ridiculously fun. Go next year if you can.

I got to shoot them a few days before they took the stage, and they were a blast to work with. That’s probably pretty obvious from the photos below. I’m crossing my fingers that they make it big HUGE.

P.S. Love the lighting on this first one:

My personal favorite:

Everybody doin’ their thing:

And last but not least, I’m glad they trusted me when I suggested we do a picture by these ugly drums:

Thanks SLA!:)

Eight Photographers, Four Models, Two Hours {South Jersey Shore Photographer}

You know that saying “leave your work at the office”? Yeah…photographers aren’t really into that. We like to hang out with other photographers, Skype with other photographers, blog-stalk other photographers, chat on forums with other photographers…you get the picture. (Ugghh, I promise that pun was unintended.)

So, I was psyched to attend a photography shootout earlier this month in Wildwood, hosted by my friend and fellow photog, Cara Carlson. The models were styled by the fabulous Alicia DiBlasio of Belle Morte. It was loads of fun, a great chance to test out some fun ideas I had…and who doesn’t love shooting at the shore? Here are some of my favorite shots I took that day.

Model-in-the-making Devon, rocking an amazing Victorian-inspired dress:

These two pics are just so Jersey shore to me. As in, the actual Jersey shore — quirky, colorful, charming. Love the funky “fish scale” siding on this house!

Some fun, bright, beachy shots…

You’d never know these next two images were taken about 10 feet from a construction site — like, with a giant bulldozer lurking just out of frame. It looks so calm and secluded in these shots. I feel like tumbleweeds should be blowing by!

Same model, same dress, totally different vibe:

…and last but not least, model Gabby vamping it up under the boardwalk.

Every time I look at these, I have a new favorite, depending on my mood. Thanks to Cara for setting up this fun day and giving me the chance to exercise my itchy “shutter finger”! <3

A Slice of Life {I Heart Faces Photo Challenge}

When I saw the topic for this week’s photo challenge at I Heart Faces, I knew exactly what photo I wanted — make that needed – to enter. Okay, so maybe I’m taking the “slice” theme a little too literally, but can you blame me? This is my awesome 2-year-old, Danger, chowing on a slice of birthday cake. I love the look in his eye that says, “How much icing can I shovel in before my parents try to sneak me some carrot sticks?”

It’s like the calm before the sugar rush.

I love this “sweet” pic of my birthday boy!

I Heart Faces Photo Challenge {Best Face in January}

Just for fun, I decided to enter this week’s photo challenge at I Heart Faces. (If you love looking through photos, you could probably kill an hour or three at that site.) I chose this photo of my seven-month-old, Dash, because he has the happiest smile — and he’s always smiling. And he’s still in that awesome phase where he actually wants to smile for the camera! I know I only have a few more months until he starts running in the opposite direction when he spots my camera:)
